Hunebelle Glass: A short explanation:
Andre Hunebelle produced art deco glass in Paris in the 1920's and 1930's. Trained in mathematics, his geometrical patterns in glass reflected this interest. Many of his pieces have clear glass and frosted glass sections.
Hunebelle's work was similar to Lalique, but his designs were more stylised. He used Frankhauser to make his moulds, as did Lalique and several other famous producers of opalescent and clear glass. Most of his work is clear and frosted glass or opalescent.
The most common marking was A.HUNEBELLE-FRANCE in moulded capitals. Other pieces are marked simply " A.HUNEBELLE" and sometimes a paper label was used with an A and H superimpose. Since paper labels are often lost, these pieces may be unmarked or simply marked "Made in France".
After the second world war Hunebelle started a different career and became a very successful film producer.
